One is a sentence - one isn't - how do you know the difference?

A depended clause is when the clause cannot stand alone like this:
Although I have a party tonight
That is dependent because you are expecting more to come so it can't stand alone as a sentence.
To make it a sentence you could do this:
Although I have a party tonight, my final baseball game of the season is at the same time so I won't be going.
That is also a complex sentence!!!
A independent clase is when it CAN stand alone. For example:
My sister's favorite food is pepperoni pizza.
That is also a simple sentence.

Maddy - You example is not correct. You've created what is known as a compound-complex sentence. (3 clauses) when you used the 'so' - you created a third clause that could stand alone.
We will study these types of sentences later inthe year- but you should avoid them for the time being.

Mr. Buxton, I have a big nota problem! Emma has tried for the third time to send me the link to our nota, but the email isn't coming to me. I don't know what to do! Tomorrow before eight o'clock can we work on it? We just need a few finishing touches. If one whole was the finished nota, we would probably be at 0.95 of the way done.

That means that a sub is something that supports a part of a sentence, and makes it stronger.

A clause is another word for a sentence.
Dependent is a sentence that cannot stand alone.
Independent is something that can, join them together, and you get complex. If the IC is first you don't need a comma, if you switch it around, it does not need a comma.
