  5. Do we get 2 +points for beating the millionare game? One of the questions on the game is just an introductry phrase, but the game says that it is a sentence. It starts with In order to... Would someone see it also and give their opinion?

  6. Ryan:

    The notes we did in class were:

    TITLE: Commas, Fragments, and Run on sentences

    C= Advance Compound Sentence
    Independent Clause (IC) ; (semi-colon) Conjunc. Adverb , (comma) IC

    ex: Charlie went home;however, he forgot his homework

    O= Opening (interductory)

    -Dependent Clause
    ex: when he cane out ,
    -prep. phrases
    ex: On Saturday ,
    -transitional words
    ex: Spesificly
    -infinitive
    ex: to do well in school
    -partisible phrase
    ex: (verb+ing) kicking & screaming

    M= non-essential information
    ex: appositives

    A BIG TIP: If info. is general- you don't need a comma
    IF info is is specific- you need a comma

    ASK YOUR SELF THIS QUESTION: Is the sentence the same without the info.

    M= Misc. Uses
    ex: when you use it in numbers 20 , 000
    or with dates 24th July , 2009 or in names
    Smith , Steve...etc...

    A= coordinate Adjective
    - can you reverse the adjective?
    - can you put and in the adj.

    ex: The big, green man
    ex: The big and green man

    S= In a 'series'
    use commas in a list of 3 or more items joined by AND, OR, or NOR

    ex: Put the magazines, books, and leaflets on my desk
    __________________________________________________

    Then we wrote a paragraph about our person using ALL of comma rules
    __________________________________________________

    I hope this helped you and i hope you get well soon...

    I'm not going to be at school tomorrow (Nov.4.2009) because i am sick... is there any notes or worksheets you could email to my mom because i don't have an email and she might email you just to make sure everything i might need will get to my house...

    I would sort-of like to have the sheets before school ends just so i can maybe get a little bit of a head start...

    Thanks,
    Sarah Neely

  21. Sorry to hear you are going to be sick Sarah. I will send you the SSS sheet. Start working on your character sketch first draft. Look at the mandela example and create you hook, topic sentence (giving your general overall opinion and p2s (other opinions related to your topic)make sure that your p3s carryt plenty of facts and also opinions based on the facts. Most important... make sure you follow the C.O.M.M.A.S. rules and don't do any sentence run-ons. You will be expected to use at least a couple of SSS techniques in your writing when you get the sheet
    Take care.

  47. Well Hayden think about it. It is a grammer test, not a writing test. You may have to do something were he gives you a paragraph and you have to correct it, but there will probably wont be an essay!
