For this Friday's Figurative Language Test you should be able to understand, identify, and recreate these types of figurative language:

Do this practice test first. Aim to score 27/29. (ignore the first question) If you can do that, you are fine for the test. Spend time working through the exercises below then retake the practice test Wed. night. Did your score improve?

ReplyDeleteidiom - is just a well known word/phrase that has a different literal meaning
ReplyDeletee.g. he's got a chip a on his shoulders or it was a piece of cake...
we all know that when we say it is a 'piece of cake' we really mean... it was easy...
most idioms are like this...
next time you come up against a word you don't know.. what should you do instead of saying "i don't know that"?

ReplyDeletefor the figurative/ literal language test, I understand all the components except I still don't quite get what a metaphor is. Could somebody please explain it to me. (I did look it up online, but it doesn't seem like anything we've learned)

Maddie, a metaphore is a figure of speech in which things are compared by stating that one thing IS another

Sarah- u need to know the general meanings of the words, u don't have to work on the poem, and students 1-5 present poem on Mon. 6-10 on tues. ect.
