Form and Function

What a great field trip today...what will you do with your 15 mins of fame once it arrives?

Be ready for the GC question tomorrow: Jennifer is the only character who has shown any real courage in the story so far. Remember you will be arguing this question from 1st person

  • No Math H/W tonight
  • Finish your fantasy stories -  HOWEVER...If you promise your work will be amazing, I will give you the CHOICE to hand this  fantasy story in on MONDAY with no consequences...(I'm exhauseted after today, so I am guessing you guys are too!)
  • Do final preparation for Verb test ( We will do this in the morning). Can you answer all the questions on the guidelines I placed on the blog earlier in the week? - Most of  test is multiple choice and very straight forward - Best way to study for it is to look at your use of verbs in your fantasy story. Can you spot and improve your linking verbs?
Finish Strong!

  11. Mr.Buxton- When u said my writing looks good, did you mean the actual piece of writing or the format????

When we do the GC, I am the dad... am I allowed to contribute in a way I already know Luke went to Jennifer's house? Because in the actual story the parents don't really know what Luke is doing...

  12. Here's my (nearly done fantasy writing...)

“Ring Ring, Ring Ring” the alarm clock belonging to a blonde 13 year old girl, rang as the sound filled up in the room’s atmosphere.
“Ughh… school again... the worst nightmare a girl could ever get,” As a messy haired girl stepped out of a bed, the girl rushed to go talk with her parents’.
“Cyrilla! No running in the house!” exclaimed her mother.
    “Sorry… mum…” mumbled Cyrilla.
“Where’s dad?” Cyrilla asked. Probably working in his lab... she imagined.
“Working in his lab,” replied her mother.
    “Knew it,” Cyrilla thought.
“Mum, why is dad always working in his lab? How many times have you said that he is?!”
“I’m sorry honey; your dad said he has a big event coming on that will give him a chance to impress his boss with some invention.”
“Anyway, you better get to school, or you’ll miss your bus again like last time.”
    “Oh bother…” groaned Cyrilla.
“Bye mum! See you later!” yelled Cyrilla on her way out.
The bus leading to Ridgeway Middle School laid outside in front of the bus stop waiting for the princess to enter. As Cyrilla stepped into the cool aired bus, she strutted down to her best friend Alice. Alice had been Cyrilla’s for almost 12 years now
“Bonjour! My friend Cyrilla,” greeted Alice, “I’ve been waiting for you. What took you so long? Everyone was waiting!”
“Hello Alice!” Cyrilla replied in a mocking French accent, “I had to comb my hair and apply make-up on my face to perfection.”
While Alice and Cyrilla chit-chatted through the whole bus ride to school, it was almost time to get off.
“Everyone off of the bus! We’re here!” hollered Jane the Bus Driver.
Cyrilla and Alice strolled arm in arm with the high top shoes clicking against the school tiles.
“Get out of my way losers,” snapped Cyrilla. Cyrilla a total Drama Queen hadn’t always been this way. Cyrilla used to get teased herself and had been the loser of a lifetime. Then one day, Cyrilla had had it. Many of her friends abandoned her because of the nice, kind-hearted girl to the mean brat she has now become.
After seven boring hours of listening to lectures and gossiping with Cyrilla’s friends, Cyrilla headed out to the yellow school buses. All class mates were rushing to get to the buses. Gazing out of the window, Cyrilla thought about what she had said earlier to those girls. Cyrilla could see flowers blooming and trees standing much straighter. Green, minty leaves were sprinkled and blown all over the gray cement ground. She imagined Samantha, Cyrilla’s friend looking into a window at Cyrilla right now in New York City. Cyrilla passed the big, bright Eiffel Tower and pulled down the window with force. A pink, silky cherry flower flew onto Cyrilla’s short mini skirt. Cyrilla stared deep into the flower and felt like she had torn those girl’s hearts apart. Those girls, were her used to be friends.
Meanwhile, Cyrilla’s father, Joe was experimenting with his new potion in the kitchen.
“I better put the potion in a cup,” Cyrilla’s father told to himself.
After Cyrilla’s father was done, he went off into his car to drive to his lab for more research on his new creation. However, Cyrilla’s father had left the cup with the potion in its place on the kitchen table by accident.
Later that afternoon, Cyrilla had arrived home.
“Mum! I’m home!” shrieked Cyrilla. No response
“What’s this? Looks like a note.... it says mom went to this saving trees club and won’t be back till 9:00. What time is it now?” The sun was still in the sky and bright blue clouds were still floating about.
“Oh well, I guess that means the house is mine for tonight.”
Cyrilla dragged herself to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Apparently, there was already a cup of water set up for her. Cyrilla slurped up all of the water, like a thirsty dog that hasn’t drank anything for years. Dizziness started to take place so, Cyrilla decided to go sit down and rest for a while.

    I don't get this one.

If the 'action' verb can be replaced by linking verb, the "action" verb is actually a linking verb, right? If so, would you calculate that "action" verb in your verb ratio?000000000000000000000
