Fifty States Living Museum Guidelines
Activity- You will be a statue in the fifty states living museum . Prepare a monologue in which you will share the key info about your state orally, as if u were a living encyclopedia. You will be prepared to deliver info, WITH DRAMATIC FLAIR, on demand from your audience.
Materials- SIMPLE costumes and/or props related to your state.
Ex.- Florida- costume could be a beach shirt and sandles, sunglasses and a big hat. You could have a basket of Florida oranges as a prop.
Vermont- dress up in a plaid shirt and carry a bottle of maple syrup.
Basically, you are preparing a 5 paragraph speech about your state
0 12221, 2333,2333, 2333,12221
Directions (on note cards prepare the following)
1 OPENER: draft a catchy slogan to open your presentation below. (it can relate to your costume or props) You can begin with a line/verse to your state song/[poem, a sales pitch to come to your state, a riddle or trivia question, a quote from a famous person, a short poem or jingle. Use this paragraph to also introduce what the audience will be hearing in your speech. Don't forget S.S.S. techniques and sequence words here and there and GRAAB sentences
2. Geography and Location sentence(s) including location and the region the state is located in. Add topographic info, weather and any special landmark or natural features of interest. DO NOT JUST COPY THE INFO IN YOUR STATE REPORT. REMEMBER YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING AN ENTERTAINING SPEECH!
2. Natural Resources and/ Commerce and Industries paragraph(s) listing chief resources in nature, crops and livestock and economic industriesDO NOT JUST COPY THE INFO IN YOUR STATE REPORT. REMEMBER YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING AN ENTERTAINING SPEECH!
2. Historical Event/ Person/Symbolic Illustration paragraph(s) revealing an important historical character and/or event which took place in your state.DO NOT JUST COPY THE INFO IN YOUR STATE REPORT. REMEMBER YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING AN ENTERTAINING SPEECH!
2. Fun facts? Poem(s) Be able to other 'unique' facts about your state. You may want to mention a stanza or 2 of your poem here.
1. Closing. You will finish by restating some of your main points that you mentioned above. Have a 'catchy' ending to your speech e.g.- Well thank you for listening ... Now that you have learned... fact+fact+fact+fact... you must definitely...etc etc.
END STRONG
Try to MEMORIZE the info on your cards. Come up with a clever way to present your info. The introduction should be an attention getter. You may wish to sing your introduction, use a poetic format, performa solilquy deliver the info using a regional dialect, use a voice of a learned professer, be a tourguide, or real estate agent, or use a catchy jingle or rhyming pattern.
