Welcome to RLA

Digital Notebook

Today, you were introduced to the 'power of words'
Some major take-aways:

  • 'Fail - BIG' - Push yourself
  • Smash out of that comfort zone!
  • Practice what you are BAD at!

H/W  (Due Fri)
Bring a book that you have read that you would recommend to other 7th graders. You might need to go to the library

Write a comment under today's blog post that states something that you learned in RLA class.

Stick your 'Comfort Zone' in a special place near your desk. Take a photo of it and place the image on your blog. We will compare images in 3 months to see how you have stepped out. (Due: Next Monday)

Secret Question: The answer to the secret question is SAUSAGES. You will need this tomorrow.

Today in RLA class, I learnt about boundaries, and how to use them to your advantage. For example, when trying to improve and learn, not to go to far out of your comfort zone, but a good amount to push yourself. I am able to use this by slowly progressing, and documenting that.

Today in RLA I learned that reading helps you anything you want to do.

Today in RLA class I have learned that failing is OK. Also that we have to go out of our comfort zone to learn more and experience more.

Today in RLA class, I learned that in order to start learning you have to step out of your boundaries, but not too far that you are in your panic zone.

Today in RLA class,I learned that you can only go so far out of your comfort zone , you have to attempt to go out of your comfort zone to know where your boundaries are.

Today in RLA I learned that failing is ok. Many times before today I thought that failing means that you are bad at something, but I learned that failing can teach you a lot. For example, it can teach about not making the same mistakes again and again. I think that this will help me during the year about learning to not make the same mistakes again.

Today I learned to step out of my boundaries and if I do not then I will never learn about my true potential, but also I should not go to far because if I do then I will quickly go back and might never go out again. Also I learned that you have to fail to learn and if you don't fail then your in the wrong level.

Today in RLA class I have learned that everyone has made mistakes but can choose to do something about them. Mr. Buxton has really opened my mind up to think about what I can do to do better at what I need help with. With enough dedication and hard work I believe that anyone can make a difference in their life wether if it's with your academics or sports it's your choice. On the way you need to believe in your self! Self motivation can't do any harm. What's stopping you is yourself.

Today in RLA class I learned that then only way to truly improve is to work on the things that you are not good at. For example if I can dribble a basketball with my right hand well and my left hand not so well I should practice more with my left hand and work to improve. I also learned that it is ok to fail and that only if you step out of your comfort zone you can develop.

Today in class I learned how much Mr.Buxton will push you to succeed. He not only tells you what you must accomplish but motivates you to do so. I also learned about the many journeys we will be going on this year. During these journeys we must step outside of our comfort zone and take risks, and with risks comes failure. I know that we must practice our weakness to improve. We learned a lot in class today and I look forward to the many journeys that are ahead!

Today in RLA I learned that failing is good. I learned on the path to success you're going to need to make mistakes. It taught me that mistakes aren't a problem it's what you learn from them thats important. This taught me that if I take a risk and it doesn't work out I shouldn't freak out. I should try and find a better way to do it. This is something that can be used anywhere, like in after school activities. I learned a lot and I can't wait for more classes like this!

I learned that you have to fail and do things that you are not good at in order to improve. Also, you have to step out of the comfort zone, but not go out to much, because you will end up in the panic zone.

Today in RLA I learned that you have to go through the process of trial and error to expand your capability. You can't just remain the way you are for the rest of your life, or else you'll face huge problems you can't even think of solving. If you expand your knowledge everyday, you'll learn that challenges get extremely harder, and you have to fail to actually succeed in the end. No one can just get through on their first try with everything. You have to practice every single day at things you aren't even the slightest bit good at. But you also have to remember that you can't step out too far all at once, because your mind isn't prepared enough for doing that certain task.

I learned today that it is ok to fail

I learned that in order to gain more knowledge, you should step out of your 'comfort zone' in order to try and experiment. If you fail, that's okay because you should learn from it and next time, you'll do better. While it's a good thing to do more and step out there, you don't want to go too far and try to learn it all at once because then you are entering the 'panic zone'. It's very stressful and not a very good way to learn things.

In RLA I've learned that if you really are going to work hard to improve on academics, or sports, or whatever it may be the best way to help yourself is to work on what you're bad at. You can't make yourself better if you only keep practicing what you're good at. Also stepping out of your comfort zone. You can only learn after you stop chasing after things that you're comfortable with. You need to take risks and you need to try new things. Finally next time try thinking on your own instead of your own thoughts and think differently with new perspectives. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Today I learned, that practicing what you are BAD at, is equally as important as practicing what you are good at, if not MORE. When you really learn valuable things is when you step out of your comfort zone, and into the learning zone. That's where the real magic happens.

Thank you Mr. Buxton

Today in RLA, I have learned that always staying in your comfort zone isn't going to do any good for you. You should step our of your comfort zone and learn/try something new to improve yourself.

I learned that the only way to accomplish something in life is not to practice something you are already GOOD at, you need to practice what you are BAD at, so you can be better. You have to step out of your comfort zone, because sometimes, that's the only way you'll improve, because if you don't step out of your comfort zone, you'll just keep practicing/doing things you are good at and you will never get better at what you are trying to do. However, it's not good to step out too much, as then, instead of going into the 'Learning Zone', you will enter the 'Panic Zone' instead. and that's NOT a good thing. You shouldn't be comfortable all the time, but that's not a reason to panic. It's a reason to LEARN how to improve instead.

Today in class I learned that if you work on your weaknesses you will get better at a lot of things in life and most of the things that you do in life will start to be balanced. So next time instead of working on your most strong areas try working on our weak areas to be balanced in anything, whether it is school, a sport that you do or anything in general it will help you grow stronger at what you are doing. I also learned that you should always try to step out of your comfort zone but you shouldn't push yourself to hard so that you can also improve in what you are doing. So whenever you get the chance step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Today I learned that you should set high expectations for yourself and try new things. Take risks, but don't do anything stupid. It's easy to just keep doing what you're good at, but it's not easy to keep trying at what you're bad at, because you will fail over and over before you get good at it. No one likes to fail, but it is okay to. You have to be brave and believe in yourself. Step out of your comfort zone and stay on your toes. Try new things, like a new instrument, activity, or technique. Stand up, stand out, and you'll learn things that you wouldn't have before.

(That was incredibly cheesy)

(I'm sorry, Mr. Buxton, if I'm not supposed to post here because I'm a last-year's student... but I did want to say something) Today in RLA class I learned that it's true that Mr. Buxton really challenges his students, and just about any other RLA class is pretty easy after you're in his class for a year. I also learned that being challenged is fun, and when everything is too easy, it's really boring. Therefore, I should always try to seek out challenges and never mind if I fail because of that, because at least I'm learning a new skill or idea or having an interesting experience. And technically, even though I'm in eighth grade and my teacher isn't Mr. Buxton this year, it was partially Mr. B who taught me that. Thanks, Mr. Buxton!

+1 for everybody who contributed.

Nice to hear from you M. Everybody will be seeing a lot of your writing this year!

I learned to fail and fail bad because you learn from your mistakes. if you aloways get an A then you never learn and the class is useless but if you fail you can learn from your mesteakes. Without mr.B I would never learn this inportant thing.

I learned to fail, so you can push yourself

I learned to redo what I fail at. If you finish a race, keep improving your time.
