Verb Test Support Exercises



Verb Test Practice
You should watch these videos and tackle these exercises for practice with your  'Verbs' test this Friday Make notes of any questions that confuse you and bring them to school. You may bring in two index cards full of notes.
Guidelines:
Make sure you know -
  • Difference betweeen linking verbs and action verbs.
  • How do you spot a linking verbs?
  • How to spot and write verb phrases in interrogative, negative (n't)
  • How to calculate a verb ratio
  • How to identify transitive and intransitive verbs
  • The six voices of the verb 'to be' in past present and future
  • How to write sentences in the six voices

Transitive and Intransitive Verbs

Changes to H/W sheet -
  • Work on p.37.p.38. Verb Infinitives, p.48. and the last page with date at the bottom 3/3/2010 titled Transitives and Intransitives. (Due: Fri)
  • KIPP reflection Writing Assignment is now due: Monday (This extension is given for you to have more time to perfect your piece. This still means to work on it a little tonight. It unfortuntaley means some work our the weekend for some of you!)
  • Spelling test is tomorrow!

Knowing the difference?
If you can answer the 'what' of the sentence - it is transitive
If you can answer the 'where, why, when' of the sentence - it is intransitive

 
Transitive verbs must be followed by a noun or pronoun

The six voices of the verb to be
How to conjugate any verb inot its six voices
A basic understanding of the 3rd person limited -v- omniscient voice 
List the 5 ways to remember linking verbs
Know the two ways to spot the difference between linking verbs and action verbs
Label an auxiliary verb (helping verb)
Label the different parts of a verb phrase
