Tyes of Subjects - Review

Can you manipulate the different openings to your sentences. Remember, a strong piece of writing uses a variety of these techniques combined with prepositional phrases, proper noun and emotion sttements

Simple Subject
The garden/

Complete Subjects
A long colorful carpet/

Compound Subjects
Parcels and packages/

Complete Compound Subjects
A mountain of dirty clothes or a pile of  spent books/

Integrating a prepositional phrase
In my mind, this disheveled cornor of  our family house/...

JUST WRITE FIRST...THEN GO BACK AND ADAPT THE GRAMMAR

THEN READ IT TO SOMEBODY. Can they see the place?  Can they tell how  YOU feel about the place from you writing?

On #8 on the Natural Resources sheet it says name 5 things that help to save our natural resources.

Could it be things to save the enviorment???
For e.g. -Recycling??
or... - plant trees????

Which one is more reasonable??????

Forrester,

What advanced subject?? I don't think i got that???

Unknown said...

i dont think we are unless he gave us one which i dont think he did

Abbie- is that complex sentence missing anything?
end it with a prep. phrase stating where the posters are...
Next sentence 'suggestion'..make it a feeling...
What do those boys and girls 'feel' about what they see?

Forrester... no ... w/sheet cancelled for now ..until tomorrow!

Sarah.. EXACTLY THAT!

you're right Sabrina :-)

anybody else want to share their best 'descriptive' sentence?

Forrester,
it doesn't matter because you don't have to explain.

Does there need to be 2 of each subject? This has nothing to do with the topic, but have any of you won in that ping-pong game. I haven't got more than 3 points.

5 Points!!!!!!!! (:

Hayden,
You need two of each subject and I have gotten up to seven in the ping pong game but have not won. Is it ok to use 'I' in your descriptive writing.

Mr. B said you can use 1 or 2 I's because it helps to use a variety of subjects to start sentences. By the way how did you get 7 points?

Could a good simple subject be... The white closet in Bob's room holds a lot of clothes... be correct???

Also... The itchy rug in Bob's room has many different colors in an oval shape... could that be a complete subject???

An no subject in a sentence with a prep. phrase right?

About how many pronouns may I use??? And if no pronouns then what can I put instead of Sarah, she, her, etc??????

Forrester said...

Sarah,
there is still a subject in a sentence that begins with a prep. For example. On Saturday, The boy played tennis.
subject- the boy
The first sentence is complete, not simple.

I know we should lable our different types of subjects, but should we highlight the prep. phrases?

Sarah N. said...

In... our place we know well... righting can a subject be in the middle so for ex.

Even though she would like to change the bright color and etc...

like that??????

Forrester,

I'm underlining the prep. phrases i'm almost possitive thats ok.

Also I'm highlighting my subjects and then labeling them... i also have a key for ex.

Highlight (the highlight word is highlighted in yellow)-
simple

Highlight (now this one is in green)- complete subject

and i'm underlining my prep. phrases

Forrester said...

May we just put what type of subject it is in parentheseis at the end of the sentence?

Remember when we added something to our writings from before? Do we still have to have those? If we do, what did we do?
-Forrester

Unknown said...

Forrester... don't write type of subject in (..) makes writing messy. Label as shown in h/w sheet

you do not have to label you prep. phrases as they will be too many to do so.. .won't they!

Sarah... your sentences were fine.. .you are actually creating possible apppositives .. see your example

The itchy rug, in Bob's room, has many different colors in an oval shape...
