My Lower School Road Trip
By: Juliana Vorhoff
“I am easily satisfied with my very best.”
-Winston Churchill

As the Vorhoff family packs up their aqua BMW with all the supplies, suitcases and food, for their trip, they head out onto the crowded road to begin a thrilling journey. My years at Charlotte Latin personally to me have been similar to a road trip. With the times where no tests will take place and light homework weeks representing when the road has no traffic. When traffic occurs, that’s similar tests will transpire that weeks or reports are due. To start of my road trip, I will cruise into all of my wonderful and glorious friendships that have lasted from TK through fifth, and later, smooth driving through the State Report with its ups, downs, and stressful moments. To close off my journey, field trips, such as the Columbia Zoo because of how I love animals and I’ve never been to a zoo before. Now sit back, relax, go to the bathroom before we head out, and let’s go on my adventure through my Lowers School years.

Please tell me any bad parts or what you liked!

Imagine, as the teachers on June 2nd at the beautiful, wonderful fifth grade graduation swelling up with tears as they finally spit out the dreadful words, “Fifth grade has ended” From concocting friendships, to eagerly working and ferociously struggling on the State Report, and all of the interesting field trips, my Lower School years were no stroll in the park. Numerous friendships have been formed throughout a plethora of years. Firstly, I will describe my first best friend. Flynn Stover. We were both in the same TK class. Not only was it the first day of school, but also I had never been so nervous before, not even when I had my first root canal. My knees felt like rubber and it felt like butterflies were having a party in my stomach. Suddenly, my mom was mesmerized in a conversation before I could say anything. It turned out to be Mrs. Stover. Apparently, they already knew each other because of my older brother, Connor, and his sister, Paige, were in the same class. Finally, after all the babbling, came the introducing. Of course we did the normal way, “Hello I am Juliana” and, “Hello I am Flynn.” He had bushy brown hair, short (but we were all short) and had big brown eyes. Each day we ended up spending more and more time together. Thankfully, Flynn and I were heading to the same kindergarten. Moreover, we were placed in the same class.
Not only was the State Report wan an educational experience by learning a new variety of other techniques, but also it had pressuring, stressing, and nerve wrecking moments. As I slowly shut down the Mac computer, I take my freshly printed-papers up to my bedroom to safely be placed in my pink and grey binder. Proofreading millions of times so could at least know I have tried my hardest. Arriving in class the next morning, I situate the report correctly and return to my desk. After a few weeks of waiting, it’s here. I am dire to find out my grade. But I don’t wonder about my grade more, I recall more of the process part. I truly and honestly have evolved as a writer through all of my stressing nights of preparing and finding notes and adding in GRAAB techniques and SSS techniques. I anxiously sat at my desk, immobile. Mr. Buxton finally shouts,” Juliana” and I close my eyes the shield them from the sight of my grade. With each waking moment longer than the next. I could almost scream in anxiousness. The papers finally crash on my desk. I peer at the purple marks made by his Paper Mate pen, mostly checks. I recollect my confidence. Finally I spot it. I have received an A+. The biggest gasp of my life flew out my mouth.

here are my next two paragraphs

Okay here is the rest of my essay:

Finally, we are approaching field trips were I enjoyed a multitude of them but none as much as the trip to the Riverbank Zoo. North Carolina may acquire the Discovery Place but alternatively South Carolina possesses the Columbia Zoo. Suddenly, as I stepped out of the white and blue CLS bus I am greeted to the roar of lions and spurs made by the elephants. I scurry over to my group because I definitely want to check out the penguins (they are my favorite animals). We rush over to the exhibit were tuxedo birds are like dancers doing a waltz under the water. They can elegantly swim under water almost as if flying. I am total awe over the amazing spectacle because I had never seen a perfecting living and breathing penguin before. After the penguin exhibit, I lost interest so the day just incessantly droned on. Sadly, the trip had to end and when it did I practically shed a single tear as we slowly piled into the large bus.
Finally, my road trip of lower school is finishing up but as this journey comes to an end, I must once again recall my beloved Lower School years for the last time. Basically, the quote, “I am easily satisfied by my very best.” To me means, I should be proud of anything I do and stand up for my work. The friendships I have bonded, like Flynn, I chose because I can always depend on them and they have become a large part of my life and I trust my friends. The State Report was so overwhelming because of learning new techniques that only Mr. Buxton has ever mentioned before. The report was also first real essay I’ve done and it was a mind-blowing experience. Field trips I chose because I love animals and looking at their habitats and really closely observing at them. As the Vorhoff family finally returns home, they cherish all of their memories and prepare for their middle school RV trip.

PLEASE give me feedback!

Stepping Stones
By Abigail Wedding
“Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”
-Winston Churchill

As the Wedding family hops in their black Sequoia, they head to wonderful Disney World. Disney World’s a special place because of the happiness that is greatest of being with beaming characters, form childhood movies throughout Magic Kingdom and other parks. Both Latin and Disney World are alike in numerous ways with unique characters that bring so much laughter. Friendship is an adventure that everyone experiences. Learning different sentence constructions from Mr. Buxton will help me in various cases. Furthermore, TK was a big change for me because I learned how to make more friends even though I was shy. Now let’s take a stroll down memory drive as we head to Disney World.
Not only is friendship a way of becoming a better person, but also teachers teach you ways of being a enhance friend. My curly dirty blonde hair swings before my eyes, as Paige flips her hair pretending to be like me. Our mouths open wide with sound drifting out. The friends I made throughout my CLS experiences and my teachers have helped me to know the real me. Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Rinehart, Mrs. Turner, and Mr. Buxton have all made me make new friends over the last 7 years. Friendship means being friends with people who are trust worthy, nice, and care about the other people. Teachers help because they make sure your not being mean or don’t know how to act From laughter of friends, to Mr. Edwards dancing, and Paige’s milk coming out of her nose, the lunch is a place you where you can make new friends. . I love my friends for they’re promising, sweet as gold hearts that make sure I am ok when I feel down such as when I gave away my dog and if a bad grade comes up.

Please feel free to give comments. I defintly need it.

As the Wedding family halts for gas the stench permeated the air while I thought about the learning I learned form Charlotte Latin Lower School. From learning new sentence teqniques from Mr. Buxton, to learning different vocabulary, and which places are better to buy different products. “Learning is what remains after you have forgotten everything you were taught” means that after you learn something well you’ll always remember. In third grade we had to make a map of a city and have different stores and street names, mine was called Zac City, and had a firehouse, school, shoe store, and a flock of houses. Another project is state report and it’s when you choose from two different states and I received New York. It was hard because you had to research all about your state. From, to, and’s, not only, but also, G.R.A.A.B, complex, and compound are just a few types of sentences that Mr. Buxton has taught us. From learning cursive, to writing with it everyday, 3rd and 2nd grade are two great years that led up to 4th and 5th grade. In addition, the reason we went to Raleigh in fourth grade is because you learn about the different types of government and Mr. Mcnahuay, Mrs. Latham, Mrs. Rinehart, and Mrs. Hodges all think we should see what our state government is like. Even though people have been to Latta Plantation about five times., the fifth grade Latta if really exciting because of the wonderful reenactment of the Civil War, and seeing what a real soldier would feel like. At Latin learning is a big part of being a bright student. However, at this school you have to work for the grades instead of just getting them. All the teacher I have had have been very helpful in my writing and learning over the last 7 years.

Please comment.

As the Wedding’s pass by an elementary school, I gaze a the younger kids and start to tell my story. As Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Hansbrough have taught me letters and taking me places all over campus respectively. Wearing a blue dress and carrying a power puff girl backpack that lies on my skin, I hop into the car to head to school, my mom was nervous that I wouldn’t talk because I never spoke in pre-school. My brother, Alex, grabbed my sweaty palm as each foot moved forward and lead me down to my new class. As Alex and I reached Mrs. Turner’s classroom, shining with excitement, I told my brother goodbye as he hugged me and gesticulated into the distance. Entering the classroom the maelstrom had settled down while Mrs. Turner expressed a welcome. Eventually, I take my seat, the girl in the yellow dress said hi, and trying to have the voice that told me to speak, I answered back hi. Soon after it was time for recess, and the girl in the yellow dress said she wanted to play with me. I ran up to Mrs. Turner and said, “I made a new friend”. She replied with excitement, “What is her name”? “I…I…. I forgot”. Mrs. Turner said that was ok and I ran back to the girl in the yellow dress. At the end of the day, my mom was sitting at the front of the carpool line; I climbed into the back of the black Sequoia and started jabbering about my day. My mom was excited to hear I had made a friend on the first day of school. The next day I learned the name of the girl in the yellow dress, Paige.

Feel free to comment. This is my 3 P2

Mr. b... i'm changing my metaphor, so would a soccer game be a good one. learning is like the main goal of school like how the main goal of soccer is to score a goal. you can depend on friends in the way that you can always count on teammates to be open when you need to pass. ii haven't really figured out emotions yet though.

brainstorm terminology associated with soccer (football in the UK)
e.g. team mates, penalties, referees, kick off, half-time, crowds, fans, World Cup, red card, yellow card
etc etc..

Think about what characteristices you need to succeed in soccer and how those same characteristics can be applied to CLS

maybe you could get some good sports quotes in there

Vince Lombardi had many see below
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/v/vince_lombardi.html

Think about your 'message' etc...

Thank you for working so hard on this.

The World Cup of Lower School
By: Ansley Cowan

A sphere of black and white hexagons thumps into woven string as the ear piercing whistle blows signaling the end of a victorious game. Triumphant smiles fade as the referee states that the scorer was off sides; therefore, the goal didn’t count leaving the World Cup championship going into overtime. My Charlotte Latin Lower School experience has been like this soccer game in the regard that it is made up with certain rules, but if you play by the rules then there will most likely be a win in the end. Projects such as the state report cause loads of stress, yet when it comes to an end you’ll look back and realize how much you have advanced as an individual writer. Alternatively, strong friendships throughout lower school are as important to have as dependable teammates are for scoring a goal. Finally, different plays sometimes get mixed up with each other like emotions are all jumbled up. While the refs are deciding what to do as a penalty, I’ll explain how soccer is played.

thats just my intro

Ansley said...

here's my 1st p2

Chunks of green grass soar into the baby blue sky as sharp cleats firmly grip onto the tough ground. The easiest part about scoring a goal is making up the play. The hard part is putting that play into action. Once a soccer player has learned a move, they practice that specific play over and over again to make it comfortable during a game. The state report resembles this time of practice. Multiple erased pencil marks and endless hours of cradling a wooden pencil in my worn out hand almost pushes me to work on the really hard sections at home. “Don’t forget S.S.S. and G.R.A.B.B. sentences.” and “Remember to prioritize you Power 2’s.” swirls around my confused mind creating a maelstrom of its own. Clicks of fingers quickly typing on the Mac Book keyboards fill the stressed air. Although, when your hand peels off a glittery smiley face sticker from the white paper and it’s placed on the chart for all to see, a joyous feeling creeps over the body. This feeling is like the feeling when a goal is scored off of your cleat. I have learned that in order to take the shorter route for this report, you need to work smart instead of staying up until 12:00 a.m. the next morning, and this is a skill that I can take with me wherever I go.

Ansley said...

here's my 2nd p2

Teammates never leave one another behind. That’s what is so powerful about strong friendships, for true friends always have each other’s backs. Clumps of mulch suffered under the weight of New Balance shoes. Recesses after recesses were spent practicing and dancing over and over again before the day of the tryouts for my 5th grade May Day Play Day talent show. The joyful, energetic spirit of the song Kung Fu Fighting engulfed Juliana Vorhoff, Abigail Wedding, Paige Davis, and me, especially the day before the auditions; however, on that Sunday night before the tryouts, an unexpected phone call from Paige was picked up on the receiver. “Ansley, I’m so sorry, but I’m too nervous to perform Kung Fu Fighting. I don’t want to hurt your feelings. I’m extremely sorry. I really am.” Paige nervously stated. After words of assurance left my mouth and the phone clicked off, I realized how brave Paige was to call some of her really close friends to tell them that she couldn’t continue the performance on the night before the audition. The next day during morning recess, Abigail, Juliana, and I made some changes to the four person parts of the dance, and we went with the flow and progressed. Abigail, Juliana, and I are close enough to Paige that we didn’t stop being friends with her just because Paige wouldn’t be comfortable on stage. As you can see, a true friend doesn’t ditch a friendship just because of one problem. A real friend sticks with that person through thick and thin.

Ansley said...

here's my 3rd p2

These various emotions follow me from grade to grade like a golden retriever who loyally follows his owner around a house. Once a neatly typed project assignment sheet creeps into my hand, worries of “Will I get it done in time?” find their way into my mind. Over those few weeks between the day we received the assignment sheet and the due date, frustration and confusion engulfs the Cowan household. When a white piece of paper finally lands on my wooden desk, waves of joy and relief crash over my head, for this is the sign that the project has officially come to an end. Even during these tough times, the school year does progress, almost too quickly. When the last half day in a certain classroom strikes and the TV is blaring with and entertaining movie, such as Pixar’s UP, sadness and longing to stay just one more day engulf my body and my mind. Although, when the burning ball of fire is at its hottest, the glad feeling of free afternoons and not as much hustle and bustle overcomes me.

sorry...i'm missing a topic sentence on this one...i'll get one soon

Ansley said...

here's my conclusion

Now that the penalty has been decided, they decided to issue a drop ball by the way, the players break up their huddles to continue the game. Charlotte Latin School truly is a World Cup championship game. Due to the fact of not wanting to be up until 1:00 a.m. completing the last minute changes to the final copy, the state report taught me how to work smart and get most of the work done in class. Alternatively, terrific friends are extremely helpful when it comes to times when you’re feeling low and just the right person can cause a few giggles here and there. Lastly, both worries of getting a project done in time and a giddy feeling during the countdown until summer express the mixed emotions during these seven years.
