Suspense Stories

Your suspense stories are due tomorrow. You will have about 20 minutes to record your stories in class tomorrow.

Recap of crafted techniques discussed
1) Opening and Delayed adjectives
2) Use of the weather
3) The Mansi Move (...scared. Scared of...)
4) Short choppy sentences for

You are being assessed on:

  • your oral reading of your stories (staccato, stretching, exaggeration, slow and fast)
  • your use of opening (x4) and delayed (x4) adjectives (you need a minimum of 8

  • You need to practice for 20mins at home this week by FRIDAY. Total practice for this week should be 45mins(25mins in class) 
  • You will need an idea for tomorrow's class for a suspense story (All classes)



Today, you practiced using the P.I.P. of 'PIPES' to improve your fluency. You will be performing your skits on Monday. You should practice reading your parts ready for this performance.

Student Led Conferences

You will be expected to do the majority of the talking in the Student Led Conferences. Hence the term, 'Student Led.'

Make sure you can talk succinctly (brief and to the point) about your  'strengths' and opportunities for growth. Make sure you have practiced talking about the slides in your slide show.

New plus point competition begins when we return. You can gain plus points in advance to go onto the new chart by: - Remember (preferential seating given for students with most plus points)

1) Returning classroom books at SLC conferences that you have at home or in your locker that you have finished with. (Max. 3 plus points)
2) Starting and finishing books over the break (Max. 3 plus points e.g. - You get a plus point for every book you read over the break -started new - three books max.)


I will expect to see many of your at conferences ready to share all your learning!

This will be a busy week:

  • Memoir: Final Draft (End of class Thur or beginning of class Fri)
  • C/D - E/F classes Reading Response Fri (you will be given the stories today to prepare for Friday)


You 'REALLY' know your theme if you can summarize your whole paper in 6 words - this is a known as a '6 word memoir' - Look at the video and the excellent examples from these students




You will have Tue, Wed, and Thur to work on your memoirs.
