Although I am jealous of your idea, Sarah, I doubt you could bring food because what if u ran out? I probably depends what u bring, like if u brought crackers for some reason like that ur state manufactures A TON of crackers, then I am sure it would be fine, however, if u bring in a dinner, then probably not

Hello everyone! This is Catie. Will you all please critique my work? I would like your opinin. Thanks!

All fans of jockey Jorge Chavez over there. All fans of me, Johnny Loftus, jockey of the famous horse Man O’ War, over here. Now gather round one and all. Now let’s go inside the arena where the Kentucky Derby itself is held. Exciting right! Sorry for any inconveniences because you have come to hear my life’s story… WRONG! I have changed gears so now we will learn about…. KENTUCKY! Now you all know how hard I practiced this. For your information, you are locked in and not allowed to go out until I have finished my presentation. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Please no food or drinks in the arena. Thank you!

Kentucky fills to the very tip top with an amazing range of gorgeous geographical features. The state contains extra-ordinary features from rolling fields, to extravagant valleys, and lush grazing pastures. In the south, Kentucky also holds a perfect climate for breeding horses with its sunny and warm weather. I love riding out to my brother Steve’s lively farm. He owns a few acres of flat land and I practice in a training ring all the time to keep my riding in A+ condition. Imagine how hard Man O’ War and I work! Kentucky also clenches five regions. These regions prevail as the Jackson Purchase Region, the Cumberland Plateau, the Pennyroyal, the Western Coalfields, and the Bluegrass Region. The Bluegrass Region also holds the Kentucky Derby every year; this event remains as my personal favorite.

A patch of wild plants grows by our ring. Man O’ War will always have to stay away from most of the wild grown herbs because they can make him sick. Some plants include bloodroot, kudzu, and pennyroyal. All of these herbs may possibly be used in medicine but if Man O’ War gets even a taste of one of these, he will surely fall ill. Corn grows on my brother’s farm too. Did you know Man O’ War’s favorite snack constantly remains corn? Whenever he spots it, the fellow gallops over to it and chews it up like a tractor. Although I do like corn, my favorite treat is the cheeseburger. Did you know that the first ever cheeseburger was served in Lexington, Kentucky at Kaelin’s Restaurant in 1920? Rainbow trout, Sucker fish, and Pink Ring Mussels also reside in this state. No fossil fuels like limestone, natural gas, and petroleum can be found Steve’s farm but he receives them from mines and quarries throughout the state.

Catie said...

When I am tired of practicing and training, I explore some of the multitudes of museums in Kentucky. My favorite museum, the Louisville Slugger Museum, holds one of Babe Ruth’s 1927 bats! (Hit crop on leg.) BAM. If I want to learn about history, my brain knows to go to the Mill Springs Battlefield Museum. If my mind wants to travel to a horse free location, I go to the Red River National Geological Area. I can’t stay too long though since my trainer will be waiting in an empty, dusty arena all alone.

While the Kentucky Cardinal resides as the state bird, “My Old Kentucky Home,” remains as the state song. I will sing the chorus, but be warned, I, a jockey, am not the best singer in the world. (Clearing voice.) Weep no more my lady weep no more today we will sing a song from the old Kentucky home for the old Kentucky home far away. Sure L.A. has American Idol, but they don’t have me, the best singing jockey in history. Want to hear a fun fact from Kentucky? Ok well here it goes. A rule in Kentucky states that a citizen may only take a bath once a year. How weird!

Now to sum it all up, I’ve told you these things about the state of Kentucky. This state holds many geographical features such as vast fields and valleys. The natural resources in this state include fish, herbs, crops, and fossil fuels. Many tourist destinations include places from the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Red River National Geological Area, and the Mill Springs Battlefield Museum. I have also told you three fun facts from this state. Pssshew… aw man! The starting pistol already shot, Im late for the Derby! Im coming Man O’ War!

Here is my speech. Please feel free to comment and criticize it. Thanks,
Maddie

Well hello farmers of Kansas! I assume you came over here to chop us down, after visiting various funerals of the other sunflowers you cut down last week. However, state flowers such as us, know multiple facts about Kansas, especially because of our height, we can see across the land. We are willing to exchange facts for our lives to be spared. What?! You say No?! You’re going to cut us down! But I… need water. Well, I guess I could tell you a little bit about Kansas, since you placed me in this beautiful vace full of water after cutting me down. From the slaves’ fight for freedom, to many lives lost, and families separated, Kansas has some of the most interesting history. Not to forget the many industries literally soaring across Kansas. I might as well start off by telling you about the multiple and distinct geographical features crowding the sunflower state.
The West, Central, and East regions complete what we call Kansas. Barely any Kansas decide to live in the Western region; however, the West’s Great Plains stretch across the land, The Mysterious Landforms of red and brown towering high touching the sky. My close relatives have bragged of the Central region’s aaaamazing geographical features. Of course, they are correct. From the sandy Hutchinson Dunes, to the gushing Arkansas and Kansas Rivers supporting the Central Region, and the Great Plains hogging Kansas, yet crowded with wheat, the Central region may have the best Geographical Features in Kansas Although some may claim that Eastern Kansas’s geographical features are nothing to compare to the Central region; however, Eastern Kansas has enough geographical to interest a swarm. Flint Hills occupy Cowley County; where as the Osage Cuestas and the Southeastern plains wow the rest of the East.
Wow wow wow! I wasn’t finished yet! Stop shaking me! Where are you taking me? What? You want to sell me at a farmer’s market on the other side of Kansas!? And we have to drive there? Oh well, maybe we will pass some industries along the way.
Wow! If you look to your left, you can see an airport. That reminds me that Kansas has been creating jets since 1907. On your right, you may gaze multiple fields of wheat stretching across Kansas. As you can observe from the road signs, we will soon be passing mines, and you will see miners digging for limestone, helium, and other resources.
Miners aren’t the only people out there who have a work ethic. African American slaves once crowded Kansas, completing each demand of their white owner in 1854. Missouri had already voted for slavery , influencing Kansas’s vote. A war begun on Kansas territory in 1854. Between 1854 and 1858, about 200 lives were lost in the bleeding Kansas war; however, Kansas entered the union as a free state in 1858.
Ok, I assume I have bored you farmers enough, so how about some fun facts. The nickname “The Sunflower State” originated because sunflowers can be discovered throughout Kansas. Kansas is also known to be a flat state; however, hills roll through this state. Less than 10% of Kansans work on farms, but 90% of Kansas is farmland. Susanna Salter, the first woman mayor, was elected in Topeka, Kansas in 1887.
