Week 9 Day 2

RLA
Complete Unit 1 from this link. You must do this exercise. I have checked in with some of my websites and can see that some students have not been doing the online practice. YOU are losing out if you don't practice the skills we are learning!
As the famous quote goes: "Be careful not to fool yourself becasue you are the easiest person to fool"
http://www.victoria.ac.nz/llc/academic-writing/tsent4.html

Then create your powerplan outline as described on the 'Week at a Glance' sheet. Use your notes from the Jane Reyonlds talk to create your powerplan. Read back what you have created after you have finished. Do the P3s relate to the P2s? Do the P2s all relate to the P1?  - Have you repeated the same word/phrase/used banned words? Next week will be your first official expositiory paper. Practice the skill now!

Maddy Z said...

Can anyone help give me an idea for a power 2 for the topic sentence:
'One human family celebrating all over the world.'

I already have this power 2:
'People celebrate the same events all over the world. The only difference is the way their culture decides to celebrate it.'

Does anyone have a helpful idea for another one?

Unknown said...

Han - go on line and type in... the captial of Holland is...

Work smart not hard!

Han said...

Oh okay thank you Mr. Buxton

AJDForTheFuture said...

P3s for that maddy, you could give examples of celebrations.
Another P2 for that maddy could be, " Every culture differs" that is not exact, be it could be something like that.

Maddy Z said...

Thanks for the idea Alex, but that is kinda the same thing as my fist power 2.

Maddy Z said...

Thanks so much for the P3 idea though, Alex. I'm using it for my first P2.

Maddy Z said...

Does anyone have any suggestions, I'm stuck!

‘One Human family celebrating all over the world.’

People celebrate the same events all over the world. The only difference is the way the way their culture decides to celebrate it.
1. Even though people in Bali may hold a traditional wedding in around sacred artifacts like the Buda, people in the US may hold it outside in a garden or in a church.
2. ?
Everywhere, groups of people join together and have parties for various reasons, most cultures will have food and drinks, dancing and music as a part of their celebration.
1. How they dance and what they eat and drink varies, but they are celebrating no matter how different it seems.
2. ?

Rohan said...

Guys, do you need to do 3 P2`s or stick with 2???

Maddy Z said...

Wonderbooks,
Does anyone know my job in bookclub?

Rohan said...

Maddy, is your first sentence your Topic or the Power 2.

Rohan said...

Maddy, i`m just about sure you are setting describer

Rohan said...

On Jan Reymonds, should my topic be Religions of earth: the amazing human body or should it beWhat amazing things a human body can do.

Maddy Z said...

Thanks Rohan! I think you should go with the first one, it's more related to what she was saying. My first line was my topic sentence.

berrysweetπ said...

Well, that's just a list of random words. the last word was spelt wrong so i wrote it again as a new comment

rachel, i told you the meaning of prodigious yesterday

rohan- got any other words of the day? can you go onto my blog and then , as a comment (you have to become a member), tell me what changes we had to make? i forgot the sheet at home.

Unknown said...

Maddy - your topic sentence reads like a 'title' and not a main idea.

When determining a good topic sentence the trick is... if you read your paper out to anyone without the topic sentence, the listener should be able to guess exactly what your topic sentence is (almost word for word)

Anonymous said...

Guys I'm Segment Summarizer right? I 'ver read but I left my book at school! But don't worry I'll write it on a plain piece of paper than stick it on

Anonymous said...

Mr.Buxton? Can I start IXL now? I've not gotten any email

berrysweetπ said...

you don't need an email!

Anonymous said...

I don't know what to do so I'll do segment

Anonymous said...

You don't? then how do I know my Username?

Maddy Z said...

Mr. Buxton, my topic sentence is a quote that Jan Reynolds said during her presentation.

Maya S. said...

I've got a deer,a butterfly, a car, and two more awards on ixl.
Rohan-You only need 2 P2's. I think it's called a power 2 because of that. It could also be because the information comes after the topic sentence.(which would be numbering it in order)

Maya S. said...

Nakul your username is
nakuls799 and the password is the same for everyone sas123
