Mr. Buxton what i IDOM ????????????????

Sarah N. said...

What else can you use meaning other than "I think"???????????????????????

Sarah N. said...

Never mind i thought of one...

idiom - is just a well known word/phrase that has a different literal meaning
e.g. he's got a chip a on his shoulders or it was a piece of cake...

we all know that when we say it is a 'piece of cake' we really mean... it was easy...
most idioms are like this...

next time you come up against a word you don't know.. what should you do instead of saying "i don't know that"?

Look it up!!!!!!!!!!!

Thnx,
Maddie

Mr. B said idom will be on the test but you don't really have to know it and it's definitions like the other words such as onopopia, metafor, etc...

would this be a good explanation for the diffrence between literal and figuaritive languege?

literal means exactly what it says while figuartive you have to " decode" it to get the real, deeper meaning
